Public school students across the UAE will move to a blended learning model during Ramadan 2026 following a new announcement from the Ministry of Education. As part of a family-focused initiative the ministry confirmed that one day every week will be allocated to distance learning throughout the Holy Month.
Starting from Wednesday February 18 which is expected to mark the first day of Ramadan all Fridays will be conducted as remote learning days for students enrolled in public schools. The decision is part of the continued “Ramadan with the Family” programme which was also implemented last year and received positive feedback from parents and educators.
The Ministry of Education clarified that students who are scheduled to sit approved examinations on Fridays during Ramadan will be required to attend school in person. Aside from this exception the distance learning policy will apply nationwide to all public school grades.
According to the ministry the initiative supports the UAE’s declaration of 2026 as the Year of the Family and is designed to strengthen family bonds while maintaining academic continuity. A detailed guide will be issued outlining curriculum-based learning activities along with enrichment tasks that encourage participation at home and reinforce the spiritual and social values of Ramadan.
While students study remotely on Fridays teaching and administrative staff will continue working on campus. Parents who prefer in-person attendance will be allowed to drop off and collect their children from school with transportation responsibilities remaining with families.
The announcement follows wider Ramadan adjustments across the country including flexible working hours and remote work options for public sector employees making it easier for families to balance education work and worship during the Holy Month.
