Veteran heart surgeon explains why black coffee may support long-term health

Date:

A seasoned heart specialist with more than two decades of experience has shared why your daily cup of coffee could be doing more than just boosting energy. According to cardiothoracic surgeon Dr Jeremy London, coffee in its simplest form may help lower the risk of several serious health conditions when consumed mindfully.

Dr London, who has over 25 years of medical practice, recently highlighted research-backed benefits of coffee, stressing that black coffee delivers the strongest impact. While popular coffee drinks loaded with sugar milk and syrups may taste comforting, they can reduce or cancel out the drink’s natural advantages.

Scientific data suggests that regular consumption of black coffee is associated with a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes improved cardiovascular health lower overall mortality rates and potential protection against certain cancers and neurodegenerative disorders. These benefits are believed to come from coffee’s high concentration of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds such as chlorogenic acid which help fight oxidative stress in the body.

Dr London also addressed how much coffee is considered safe. He explained that most people can comfortably drink three to four cups per day ideally during the morning or early afternoon. Drinking coffee too late in the day may interfere with sleep quality. For those sensitive to caffeine he noted that decaffeinated coffee appears to offer similar health benefits without the stimulant effect.

The key takeaway is moderation and simplicity. Choosing plain coffee over heavily sweetened versions may help you enjoy both the flavour and the health advantages that research continues to uncover.
