Vinicius Jr Issues Apology for El Clasico Substitution Reaction but Ignores Xabi Alonso in Statement

Date:

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has publicly apologised following his emotional outburst during the recent El Clasico, where Los Blancos secured a 2-1 victory over Barcelona. The Brazilian star showed visible frustration after being substituted in the 71st minute, heading straight to the dressing room and avoiding interaction with manager Xabi Alonso.

Vinicius had been actively involved in the crucial attacking play that led to Real Madrid’s winning goal and consistently troubled Barcelona’s defence, particularly Jules Kounde. However, his behaviour overshadowed the club’s important win that ended a four-match losing streak.

The 25-year-old posted a statement on social media expressing regret for his reaction. He confirmed that he had already apologised directly to his teammates and club president Florentino Perez. Notably, his apology did not include any mention of Alonso, further highlighting the increasing tension between the player and his manager.

“Sometimes my emotions spill over because my desire to win is so strong,” Vinicius said, explaining his actions as a reflection of his passion for the club.

Since Alonso took charge earlier this year, Vinicius’ role at Real Madrid has seen a shift due to the arrival of Kylian Mbappe, who has taken over as the focal point of the attack. Early substitutions have become more frequent for Vinicius, causing friction in what was once a starring position for him.

Despite returning to the pitch late in the match amid heated confrontations after Pedri’s red card, his frustrations were evident. Teammates had to calm him down as tensions flared between both sides.

Real Madrid currently sit at the top of the La Liga table with 27 points, maintaining a five-point lead over Barcelona. As the club continues its title push, all eyes will be on how Vinicius and Alonso move forward from the incident.
