Virat Kohli faces harsh criticism from Australian media after back-to-back ducks as farewell tour struggles continue

Date:

Virat Kohli’s much-anticipated return to international cricket has taken an unexpected downturn, leaving both fans and experts stunned. Known for his reliability and composure under pressure, Kohli’s current performance on the Australia tour has been far from his usual standards. The veteran batter has now suffered two consecutive ducks, marking the first time in his international career that he has failed to score in back-to-back innings.

In Adelaide, where India were put to bat first after Mitchell Marsh won the toss, the crowd eagerly awaited a trademark Kohli innings. However, after the early dismissal of Shubman Gill, Kohli’s brief stay at the crease lasted just four deliveries. Xavier Bartlett’s sharp inswinger trapped him in front of the stumps, sending shockwaves through the stadium and social media alike.

The reaction from Australian commentators and media outlets was swift and cutting. On ABC Sports, Aaron Bryans remarked, “Virat Kohli’s reign seems to be slipping. The King has stumbled again, dismissed for consecutive ducks in Australia.” His co-commentator Darren Lehmann added that this tour is testing Kohli’s resilience and might mark a difficult phase in his farewell run.

Fox Cricket echoed similar sentiments, describing his performance as a “horror show that continues,” while Cricket Australia’s official X handle posted a video highlighting Kohli’s twin dismissals. Australian outlets even went so far as to suggest that the star’s farewell series is turning into a disaster, adding fuel to ongoing speculations about his future in international cricket.

As Kohli waved to the Adelaide crowd on his way back to the pavilion, fans speculated whether it was a sign of him bidding farewell to the sport. His dismissal left India struggling at 17/2, but a solid 118-run stand between captain Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer helped the team regain balance. Sharma’s composed 73 off 97 balls gave India hope, although the middle order faltered later, casting doubt on India’s chances of reaching a competitive total.

Virat Kohli’s back-to-back dismissals have ignited a heated debate about his form, with fans hoping the “King” will stage a trademark comeback before the tour concludes.
