Will Smith May Rejoin Men in Black as New Film Enters Development with Bad Boys Writer Chris Bremner

Date:

A fresh mission may be on the horizon for the Men in Black universe as Sony Pictures begins early development on a new installment of the iconic sci-fi franchise. Following the renewed success of the Bad Boys series, the studio has reportedly enlisted Chris Bremner—the writer behind Bad Boys for Life—to craft the script for the next chapter of the MIB saga. While Sony has not released an official statement, industry insiders suggest this project is shaping up to be the studio’s next big nostalgic revival, raising hopes for Will Smith’s return as the legendary Agent J.

Although no casting or directing decisions have been finalized, Will Smith is expected to be among the first to review the completed script. Sources note that the actor has not committed to the film yet but remains a strong possibility given his recent box-office resurgence and long-standing connection to the franchise. The new installment may center on Smith once again or introduce a younger lead in a story that transitions the series to a new generation.

The Men in Black franchise continues to be one of Sony’s most valuable properties, blending sharp comedic timing with high-energy action and extraterrestrial intrigue. The original 1997 film starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones became a global sensation and led to two sequels, as well as a 2019 spinoff featuring Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. Collectively, the films have amassed nearly $2 billion worldwide, cementing MIB as a blockbuster powerhouse. As early development progresses, Sony may look to reunite previous producers Walter F Parkes and Laurie MacDonald along with executive producer Steven Spielberg to maintain the franchise’s signature style. Fans will need to wait for further updates, but early buzz suggests the Men in Black are gearing up for a major comeback.
