Xiaomi has officially confirmed the China launch date of its next flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. The device will debut on December 25 at 7pm local time during the Xiaomi x Leica Imaging Strategic Cooperation Upgrade event. Positioned as the most premium model in the Xiaomi 17 series, the smartphone succeeds the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and brings refinements in design, camera technology, and form factor.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra retains a familiar premium aesthetic with a centrally placed circular camera module at the rear, prominently featuring Leica branding. Xiaomi has teased the phone in classic black and white finishes, alongside a newly introduced “Starry Sky Green” colourway. According to Xiaomi President Lu Weibing, this special green variant integrates ore particles into the back panel, creating a textured finish that resembles a star-filled night sky.
Design-wise, the handset features a large R-angle flat display and segmented circular volume buttons, a subtle nod to earlier iPhone designs. With a thickness of just 8.29mm, Xiaomi claims this is the slimmest Ultra-series smartphone the company has produced so far.
On the imaging front, Xiaomi is heavily emphasising camera upgrades. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is confirmed to feature a triple rear camera system led by a 50-megapixel 1-inch OmniVision OV50X primary sensor, paired with a Leica-branded 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens. The company has teased a new simultaneous telephoto optical system and significant improvements in low-light photography. A sample image shared by Xiaomi was captured at ISO 64 with an f/1.67 aperture, highlighting enhanced night imaging capabilities.
More specifications and global availability details are expected to be revealed closer to the official launch.
