Xiaomi 18 leak suggests bigger 6.4-inch screen and 200MP periscope camera upgrade

Date:

Fresh leaks indicate that Xiaomi is preparing notable upgrades for its upcoming flagship lineup with the Xiaomi 18 series. The standard Xiaomi 18 is now tipped to arrive with a larger 6.4-inch display marking a shift from earlier expectations that positioned it as a more compact 6.3-inch flagship.

According to new information shared by a well-known Chinese tipster the slightly bigger screen is expected to improve media consumption while still keeping the phone within the compact flagship category. For reference the Xiaomi 17 featured a 6.3-inch OLED display with 1.5K resolution a 120Hz refresh rate high touch sampling and strong peak brightness making the anticipated upgrade a modest but meaningful change.

One of the biggest highlights of the leak is the camera setup. Reports suggest that every model in the Xiaomi 18 series will be equipped with a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. This would be a major step forward especially for the base model which previously relied on a lower resolution telephoto lens. In the current Xiaomi 17 lineup only the Ultra variant carries a 200-megapixel periscope camera while other models feature 50-megapixel sensors.

Earlier reports also hinted that Xiaomi has been testing dual 200-megapixel sensors for an upcoming compact flagship believed to be the Xiaomi 18 Pro. If this turns out to be accurate the device could feature a 200-megapixel main camera alongside a 200-megapixel telephoto or periscope unit placing Xiaomi alongside other Chinese brands experimenting with ultra-high-resolution dual camera systems.

Although Xiaomi has not officially confirmed any details the Xiaomi 18 series is widely expected to debut in China around September. Separately the company is also rumored to be working on an additional Xiaomi 17 series model dubbed Xiaomi 17 Max which could feature an exceptionally large battery and a flagship Snapdragon chipset.
