Yashasvi Jaiswal Reacts to Asia Cup 2025 Snub: “I Will Keep Working Hard Until My Time Comes”

Date:

Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has finally spoken about being left out of India’s squad for the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, admitting that while the decision was disappointing, it is entirely in the hands of the selectors. The young left-hander stressed that his focus remains on working hard, improving his game, and waiting patiently for the right opportunity.

The selectors, led by Ajit Agarkar, surprised many by excluding Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer from the 15-member squad. Shubman Gill returned as vice-captain, while Sanju Samson was pushed lower down the order. The decision sparked debate among fans and experts, given Jaiswal’s promising international record and strong IPL 2025 performance.

In an interview with Mashable India, Jaiswal said:

“I don’t think about these things much. It’s all in the hands of selectors, and they take decisions based on team combinations. I will just focus on what I can control and keep working on myself.”

He added, “When my time comes, things will fall into place. Until then, I will continue to give my best.”

Consistent Performances Despite Snub

So far, Jaiswal has played 23 T20Is, scoring 723 runs at an average of 36.15 and a strike rate of 164.31. His IPL 2025 campaign was equally impressive, with 559 runs in 14 matches at a blistering strike rate of 159.71. Despite these numbers, the 23-year-old was overlooked for the Asia Cup squad.

Strong Self-Belief and Future Goals

Known for his fearless batting style, Jaiswal highlighted that his belief in himself has never wavered. He recalled his special century on the England tour, scored in front of his parents, calling it one of the most emotional moments of his career.

“I always had the belief that I would achieve something big in cricket. I will never stop working hard. My biggest dream is to help India win another World Cup,” he said.

Jaiswal was part of India’s T20 World Cup 2024-winning squad, a memory he described as unforgettable due to the grand welcome the team received upon returning home.

The left-handed opener will now shift focus to the upcoming two-Test series against the West Indies, starting October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where he is expected to play a key role at the top of the order.
