The Google Pixel 9 series may soon gain compatibility with Apple’s AirDrop feature through Quick Share, enabling Android users to share files directly with iPhones, iPads, and macOS devices. A recent examination of the Android Canary build (ZP11.251212.007) revealed new system files that suggest AirDrop functionality could expand to Pixel 9 models, extending the feature previously limited to the Pixel 10 series.
This integration allows for peer-to-peer file transfers without server routing, ensuring data privacy and security. Quick Share uses the AirDrop “Everyone for 10 minutes” mode to facilitate the connection between devices. While the standard Pixel 9a may not receive this update, the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro are expected to benefit from this cross-platform sharing feature. Google has confirmed that future Android devices will eventually support AirDrop transfers, although no official timeline has been shared yet. The functionality maintains direct device-to-device communication, keeping shared content secure and unlogged.
