India Clinch Record Sixth U19 World Cup Title After Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Historic 175 Against England

Date:

India’s Under-19 cricket team scripted history by defeating England in the final of the ICC U19 World Cup 2026 to lift their sixth title, the most by any nation in the tournament’s history. Led by captain Ayush Mhatre, the Indian side delivered a dominant all-round performance at the Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe, sealing a memorable 100-run victory.

After winning the toss, India chose to bat and suffered an early setback with the loss of opener Aaron George. However, the setback only set the stage for a breathtaking innings from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who took complete control of the final. Displaying fearless stroke play and remarkable composure, the teenage sensation dismantled the England bowling attack with a record-breaking knock. Captain Ayush Mhatre played a crucial supporting role, scoring a composed 53 and building a strong partnership that laid the foundation for a massive total.

Once Mhatre was dismissed, Sooryavanshi accelerated further, smashing boundaries at will and threatening to reach a double century. His extraordinary innings finally came to an end at 175 off just 80 balls, brought to a close by Manny Lumsden. Despite a brief middle-order collapse, India’s lower order added valuable runs to push the score to a tournament-record 411 for 9 at the end of 50 overs.

England’s chase began under immense pressure, and India struck early to gain the upper hand. While Dawkins showed resistance and partnerships involving Ben Mayes and Thomas Rew kept England in the contest, timely wickets ensured India maintained control. A decisive spell around the 21st over turned the match firmly in India’s favour as England lost key batters in quick succession.

A late fightback from Caleb Falconer and James Minto briefly revived England’s hopes, with Falconer scoring a courageous century under pressure. However, consistent breakthroughs from the Indian bowlers eventually ended the resistance. Falconer was dismissed for 115, and England were bowled out for 311, handing India a comprehensive victory.

With this triumph, India extended their dominance in youth cricket, claiming their sixth Under-19 World Cup crown and reaffirming their reputation as the most successful team in the history of the competition.
