Bollywood actor Taapsee Pannu has candidly spoken about the realities of losing projects in the film industry revealing that casting decisions are not always in an actor’s control. During a recent appearance on The Right Angle with Sonal Kalra, the actor addressed whether her outspoken nature has ever cost her professional opportunities.
When asked if speaking her mind ever led to lost work Taapsee admitted that such decisions are rarely communicated directly. She explained that if someone chooses not to collaborate those reasons often do not reach the concerned actor. However she acknowledged hearing that in some cases leading male stars influence casting choices particularly in hero heroine driven films. According to her unless the director is a powerful figure with complete creative control the hero’s preference can sometimes determine who is cast opposite him.
Citing her experience in Dunki directed by Rajkumar Hirani and starring Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee shared that strong directorial conviction can override conventional casting expectations. She noted that she may not have been considered a typical choice for that cinematic space yet the director’s firm decision ensured her role in the film.
The actor also responded to perceptions that she may be difficult to work with. She pointed out that several filmmakers have collaborated with her more than once which she believes contradicts such claims. Taapsee added that since she is not highly social within industry circles she prefers to let her performances speak for themselves even if that approach is more challenging.
On the professional front Taapsee was recently seen in the courtroom drama Assi directed by Anubhav Sinha which released in cinemas on February 20.
