Avatar Fire and Ash Box Office Day 3 Report Shows Strong Opening but Trails Franchise Highs

Date:

James Cameron’s latest sci-fi spectacle Avatar: Fire and Ash has wrapped up its opening weekend at the Indian box office with solid numbers, though it has not matched the explosive start of its predecessors. By the end of day three, the film collected approximately ₹65 crore in India, giving stiff competition to ongoing releases while falling short of earlier Avatar benchmarks.

According to industry tracker data, the film earned around ₹19 crore on Friday, followed by ₹22 crore on Saturday. On Sunday, collections stood at about ₹24 crore by late evening, taking the three-day total to roughly ₹65.43 crore. While these figures reflect a strong opening for a Hollywood release, they remain significantly behind Avatar: The Way of Water, which had already crossed ₹100 crore in India by its third day back in 2022.

The box office journey for Fire and Ash is also being shaped by intense competition from Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar, which continues its remarkable run in its third week. By its seventeenth day, the film has crossed ₹545 crore in India and is on track to enter the list of the country’s top ten highest-grossing films of all time, posing a major challenge for new releases.

Released in India on December 19 in six languages including English Hindi Tamil Telugu Malayalam and Kannada, Avatar: Fire and Ash continues James Cameron’s ambitious vision for the franchise. The film follows the massive global success of The Way of Water, which earned over USD 2.3 billion worldwide and became the third-highest-grossing film of all time. Cameron has already confirmed that Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 are slated for release in December 2029 and December 2031 respectively, cementing the franchise’s long-term cinematic roadmap.
