Bayern Munich produced a stunning late comeback to defeat Real Madrid and secure a 6-4 aggregate victory in a dramatic UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash.
The German side clinched a 4-3 win on the night thanks to late goals from Luis Diaz in the 89th minute and Michael Olise in stoppage time, sealing their place in the semi-finals where they will face Paris Saint-Germain.
The match delivered relentless drama from the opening moments. Arda Guler capitalized on an early mistake by Manuel Neuer to give Madrid the lead within the first minute. Bayern responded quickly through Aleksandar Pavlovic, who headed in the equalizer shortly after.
Guler struck again with a brilliant free-kick to restore Madrid’s advantage, but Harry Kane levelled for Bayern with his 12th goal of the tournament. Just before halftime, Kylian Mbappe equalized once more for Madrid, finishing off a move created by Vinicius Junior to make it 3-3 on the night.
The second half slowed slightly but remained tense, with Neuer redeeming himself through key saves. The turning point came late in the game when Eduardo Camavinga was sent off after receiving two quick yellow cards, leaving Madrid with ten men.
Bayern took advantage of the numerical edge, as Diaz found the net with a deflected strike before Olise sealed the victory deep into added time. The win marked a rare comeback, making Bayern only the second team in Champions League history to recover after trailing three times in a single match.
Head coach Vincent Kompany praised his team’s unity and determination, highlighting their belief throughout the contest. On the other side, Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa expressed disappointment, especially regarding the late red card decision.
Despite a spirited effort, the defeat ends Real Madrid’s hopes of securing another European title this season, while Bayern continue their pursuit of multiple trophies with renewed momentum heading into the semi-finals.
