Speaking after his victory over Ben Shelton in the Laver Cup, Alcaraz stated, “While some believe this is a suitable schedule, others argue there are too many mandatory tournaments, and this may increase in the future. This is putting a significant strain on us. Right now, numerous injuries are occurring due to the schedule and other factors, and at some point, players may have to skip tournaments to take care of their health, family, and personal life outside tennis.

Alcaraz defeated Shelton 6-4, 6-4 in singles but later lost his doubles match with Alexander Zverev to the American duo of Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe.

“It was an incredibly tough match, both players were very solid. I’m pleased to have won because the competition level is extremely high. It’s crucial to perform well against Shelton because of his incredible serve and unpredictable play. He can suddenly serve a second serve at 220 km/h, which is unbelievable. I knew I had a chance if I remained aggressive. I think I executed my strategy well,” Alcaraz commented.

Alcaraz has experienced a challenging season, marked by an early exit at the US Open and a loss to Novak Djokovic in the Olympics men’s singles gold medal match.

“This season has been tough. I’ve played fewer tournaments than some players but still a lot of matches. The long season takes a toll both physically and mentally. These tournaments help me regain my form on the court. Although the season is nearing its end, I am looking forward to gradually feeling better,” he added.
