Popular Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh recently shared an emotional glimpse into his childhood while appearing on Kaun Banega Crorepati 17. The artist participated in the show to help raise funds for families impacted by the recent Punjab floods, and during his conversation with Amitabh Bachchan, he opened up about his modest upbringing and the strong influence his father had on his life.
Diljit revealed that his father worked as a ticket checker in state roadways and lived a very simple and humble life. He described him as a man with limited needs who believed strongly in values and contentment. Diljit recalled that despite earning a government salary, the money would often be exhausted early in the month, pushing him to help the family from a young age.
According to Diljit, he was around 10 or 11 when he moved to live with his maternal uncle. He admitted that the decision was difficult for him because he could only visit his parents once every few months. However, he never stopped admiring the love and sacrifices made by his father, who always encouraged him to build his own path in life.
To support his household, Diljit began performing at small private functions such as weddings and birthday parties. He explained that once his first album was released, bookings increased, and he finally saw financial relief coming into the family. Starting with shows that paid around ₹2,000, he and his team performed at countless events, marking the beginning of his journey toward becoming a household name in the music world.
Today, Diljit Dosanjh stands among the most successful stars in Punjabi entertainment. His career took off with hit music albums such as Smile and later with films like Jatt & Juliet and Punjab 1984. His move into Bollywood further strengthened his fame, thanks to acclaimed performances in Udta Punjab, Good Newwz, Phillauri, and Amar Singh Chamkila. Diljit is now gearing up for his next major Hindi project, Border 2, which will feature Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty, and is expected to release on 22 January 2026.
