Doctor Breaks Carb Myth Says Weight Gain Comes From Wrong Choices Not Carbs

Date:

Carbohydrates have long been blamed for weight gain and poor health but a medical expert is challenging that belief. Dr Manan Vora an orthopaedic surgeon and health educator explains that carbohydrates themselves are not responsible for fat gain. Instead the issue lies in the quality and type of carbs people consume on a daily basis.

In a recent social media video Dr Vora addressed the growing trend of labelling carbs as unhealthy while protein continues to dominate fitness conversations. He explained that refined and processed carbohydrates are often mistaken for all carbs which leads to confusion and unnecessary fear around eating them. Foods such as white bread sugary beverages and baked goods are easy to overconsume and can cause rapid spikes in blood sugar which may contribute to weight gain over time.

Dr Vora highlighted that complex carbohydrates behave very differently in the body. Whole grains oats brown rice and other fibre rich options break down slowly and provide sustained energy. These foods help people feel full for longer support digestion and supply essential vitamins minerals and antioxidants that aid metabolism rather than disrupt it.

He also shared practical examples of healthier carb choices that can be easily included in daily meals. These include oats paired with milk or curd and nuts multigrain roti instead of refined flour options and traditional dishes like poha or upma prepared using whole grains. According to the doctor these swaps offer better nutrition without sacrificing energy or satiety.

Dr Vora concluded by encouraging people not to fear carbohydrates but to be mindful of their sources. By avoiding processed junk foods and choosing complex carbs individuals can maintain better metabolic health while still enjoying balanced meals.
