Bite-sized yet bursting with taste these mini versions of the classic vada pav are crowd-pleasers and ideal for serving alongside festive sweets. Here’s an easy recipe that will let you create this mouthwatering snack right at home.

Ingredients for Mini Vada Pav

For the vada filling:

  • 1 cup mashed potato
  • ¼ cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 green chili finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • ¼ tsp red chilli powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp goda masala
  • 1–2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander
  • ½ cup besan (chickpea flour)
  • 1 tbsp rice flour
  • ¼–⅓ cup water
  • Pinch of salt and turmeric powder

For the peanut chutney:

  • ½ cup roasted peanuts
  • 3–4 dry red chillies roasted
  • 4–6 garlic cloves
  • ½ tsp tamarind paste
  • 1 tsp jaggery powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1–2 tsp red chilli powder

For the green chutney:

  • 1 cup coriander leaves
  • 1 cup mint leaves
  • 1 cup raw mango pieces
  • ¼ cup roasted peanuts
  • 1 inch ginger chopped
  • 2–3 green chillies
  • ¼ cup water
  • ½–¾ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tbsp jaggery or sugar

Bread Base:

  • 22–24 bread slices cut into 2-inch rounds
  • Butter or ghee for toasting

Method to Prepare Mini Vada Pav

  1. Mix the vada filling ingredients and roll into small balls.
  2. Prepare a smooth batter with besan rice flour water and spices for coating.
  3. Grind chutney ingredients separately and keep aside.
  4. Cut bread into circles and lightly toast with butter or ghee until golden.
  5. Heat oil dip potato balls into batter fry until golden and crisp.
  6. Spread green chutney on toasted bread add one fried vada sprinkle peanut chutney and garnish with pomegranate arils if desired.
