Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup moong dal
  • 3/4 cup oats
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 1 tbsp dahi (yogurt)
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • A handful of fresh coriander leaves
  • Water as required

Method

  1. Wash the moong dal thoroughly and soak it in water for a few hours. Cook it in a pressure cooker with some water until soft, then mash it well.
  2. Dry roast the oats in a pan until golden brown, then grind into a coarse powder in a mixer. Keep a small portion aside for coating the tikkis.
  3. In a bowl, combine the mashed moong dal, grated carrot, chopped onion, and roasted oat powder.
  4. Add red chili powder, garam masala, fresh coriander, salt, and dahi, mixing everything to form a smooth dough.
  5. Divide the mixture into equal-sized portions and shape them into tikkis. Coat each tikki with the remaining oat powder.
  6. Heat oil in a pan and shallow fry the tikkis until golden brown and crispy on both sides.
  7. Serve hot with green chutney or your favorite dip for a delicious, wholesome snack.
