As Oliver walked on stage to accept his award, the broadcast muted him twice, leaving fans and audiences puzzled. Social media users were quick to speculate and fill in the blanks about what he might have said. According to posts circulating on X (formerly Twitter), Oliver appeared to jokingly target fellow comedian Nate Bargatze. Reports claim he said, “F–k you Nate Bargatze, that is a lot of money for you – and you can add a f— to the swear jar as well.” These claims, however, have not been independently verified.
The sudden censorship sparked a wave of online reactions. Many viewers expressed confusion about why Oliver’s words were cut. “So who’s gonna tell me what John Oliver said for them to cut his speech off of live TV because I need to know,” wrote one user.
