The emergence of CORTIS, BigHit Music’s newest boy group, signals the start of a fresh chapter in K-pop. After the worldwide achievements of BTS and TXT, the label has debuted its first group in six years, introducing fans to Martin, James, Juhoon, Seonghyeon, and Keonho. Even though they’re just stepping onto the stage, the rookies openly express their admiration for BTS, acknowledging how the global superstars shaped their dreams and approach to music.
Martin on learning leadership from RM
In a candid conversation with W Korea, group leader Martin shared how BTS’s RM influenced his growth as both an artist and a leader. “I was first introduced to BTS through my sister, and while I already loved music, watching them made me realize the kind of group I wanted to join and the music I wanted to create,” Martin explained. He recalled RM’s advice that a leader must “re-energise the members when they are tired” and emphasized how RM’s humility in saying that leadership is “just the last trophy” shaped his own outlook.
James on drawing strength from Jimin
Meanwhile, James revealed his admiration for both Michael Jackson and BTS’s Jimin. He shared how the King of Pop’s legendary 1993 Super Bowl halftime performance inspired him, especially the moment Jackson captivated a massive crowd with stillness alone. “That was the first time I realized the true power of stage presence,” James said. But it was Jimin’s performance of Serendipity that truly sparked his dream of becoming an idol. “The way he expressed emotion and moved on stage made me decide that I wanted to pursue this path seriously,” he added.
