Netflix’s Wayward Season 2: Mae Martin and Cast Address Renewal Possibilities

Date:

Netflix’s eerie psychological thriller Wayward premiered on September 25, 2025, and instantly captured attention with its unsettling atmosphere, mysterious characters, and shocking finale. All eight episodes dropped at once, and many fans binged the entire series in a single sitting. The burning question now remains: Will Wayward return for Season 2?

Set in the chilling world of Tall Pines Academy, Wayward concluded with cliffhangers that left viewers unsettled. Abbie (Sydney Topliffe) appeared to escape, but her safety remains uncertain. Alex (Mae Martin) made the difficult choice to stay with Laura (Sarah Gadon), who is showing signs of becoming a cult leader. Evelyn (Toni Collette) was left drugged and unresponsive, while Leila (Alyvia Alyn Lind) stunned audiences by staying behind even after discovering a way out. These unresolved storylines sparked speculation about whether Netflix will extend the show beyond its original run.

For now, Netflix has not officially renewed Wayward for Season 2. The show was promoted as a limited series, which often means a single-season story. However, creator and star Mae Martin has expressed openness to continuing. In an interview, Martin said, “I was told it was a miniseries, but there’s definitely more story to tell. We left all the characters in crisis, and it’s fun to imagine what’s next.”

Cast members share the same hope. Sarah Gadon commented, “Nothing’s tied up in a neat little bow,” while Toni Collette described the story as “endlessly intriguing.” Alyvia Alyn Lind and Sydney Topliffe also confirmed they would return if given the chance.

That said, Martin acknowledged that continuing the story could present challenges. “It works as a miniseries,” they told Variety. “But realistically, the FBI would be in there pretty fast—there are so many dead people now.”

If a second season does happen, it could explore the fate of side characters like Stacey (Isolde Ardies), Mule (Tricia Black), and Duck (Joshua Close). The aftermath of Evelyn’s collapse, Abbie’s possible escape, and Alex’s loyalty to Laura would also demand answers. Martin, Gadon, Lind, and Topliffe would likely reprise their roles, while Collette’s future depends on Evelyn’s survival. Brandon Jay McLaren, however, would not return since his character, Dwyane, died in Season 1.

For now, fans must wait to see if Wayward Season 2 becomes reality or if the story remains a one-season psychological mystery. Until then, all eight episodes of Wayward are available for streaming on Netflix.
