Actor Priyanka Chopra has opened up about the deeply emotional days following the premature birth of her daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas revealing that she and husband Nick Jonas felt compelled to publicly announce the news before they were ready. Speaking on the The Jay Shetty Podcast the actor described the period as personally traumatic as their newborn remained in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit NICU for several weeks.
Priyanka recalled that only one parent was allowed inside the NICU at a time. She remembered hearing her daughter cry softly for the first time describing it as faint and fragile. While both families flew in to support them the couple spent most of their time at the hospital navigating uncertainty and fear. During this sensitive period they were reportedly informed that news of their baby’s birth might be published without their consent prompting them to share the announcement themselves to retain control over their personal story.
For nearly three months Priyanka and Nick paused their professional commitments to focus entirely on their daughter’s recovery. Music and prayer became part of their daily routine in the hospital. Nick would sing to Malti while playing his guitar beside her crib. Priyanka meanwhile played devotional chants including the Mahamrityunjay Mantra the Gayatri Mantra and Om Namah Shivaya softly through a small device placed near her daughter. She shared that many well wishers were praying for Malti and described her as deeply cherished and long awaited making the journey especially overwhelming for the family.
Priyanka and Nick married in 2018 in Rajasthan in ceremonies that blended Christian and Hindu traditions. They welcomed Malti in January 2022 and have since kept much of her life private.
On the professional front Priyanka is currently seen in The Bluff directed by Frank E Flowers where she portrays a former pirate seeking redemption. She will also return in season two of Citadel. Additionally she is set to make her Telugu film debut in Varanasi directed by SS Rajamouli alongside Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran with a scheduled release in April 2027.
