The hype around Peacemaker Season 2 just got bigger as fans believe Superman might appear in the upcoming series. John Cena is back as Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker, in the HBO Max hit which follows events after the recent Superman film where Lex Luthor triggered an interdimensional rift in Metropolis.
Fueling the rumors, actor David Corenswet, who plays the new Superman, shared a behind-the-scenes photo showing himself in the iconic Superman suit alongside John Cena. In the picture, Cena’s Peacemaker appears with fake blood on his face while Corenswet flashes a grin. The viral snap quickly sent fans into a frenzy with many claiming it confirmed a Superman cameo.
Reactions poured in on X (formerly Twitter), with one fan writing: “Upcoming cameo, got it” while another called it an “epic crossover vibe.” Others insisted that Superman’s appearance in Season 2 is now all but guaranteed.
The speculation makes sense since production for Peacemaker Season 2 and the Superman movie overlapped. While Superman didn’t show up in Episode 3, where Cena’s current costume is from, the possibility of a later cameo remains strong. Fans also recall that Peacemaker had a small appearance in Corenswet’s Superman movie, seen briefly in a news segment.
Adding fuel to the fire, James Gunn, director of the Superman reboot, confirmed that Season 2 of Peacemaker serves as a prequel to Man of Tomorrow (set for a 2027 release). Gunn even revealed that the series directly connects to the upcoming Superman storyline, making a cameo by the Man of Steel far from unlikely.
Peacemaker Season 2 already includes big names from the DC Universe such as Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern and Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl. With alternate dimensions, A.R.G.U.S. operations under Rick Flag Sr. (played by Frank Grillo), and Justice Gang members appearing, Superman stepping in would fit seamlessly into the explosive storyline.
