Hollywood star Tom Holland has spoken candidly about living with ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) and dyslexia, revealing how these conditions sometimes make his acting journey more challenging. In a recent conversation reported by E! News, the actor shared that facing a “blank canvas” can often feel overwhelming when preparing for new roles.
“I have ADHD and I’m dyslexic, and I find sometimes when someone gives me a blank canvas that it can be slightly intimidating,” Tom explained, adding that character development often comes with such hurdles.
The 29-year-old Marvel star also highlighted the importance of engaging in activities that encourage creativity and problem-solving. “Any way that you can, as a young person or as an adult, interact with something that forces you to be creative and think outside the box, I think the better it is for you,” Holland said.
Tom was first diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of seven, and over the years he has been open about his struggles—particularly with spelling. During a 2023 appearance on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, he shared how his parents, Dominic and Nikki Holland, always motivated him to give his best despite academic challenges. “My spelling was really the biggest hurdle. I didn’t do particularly well at school, but my parents always said, ‘As long as you try your best.’”
Despite these learning difficulties, Holland has managed to carve out an extraordinary career in Hollywood, showing resilience and determination. He also offered advice to others facing similar struggles: “It’s about giving yourself enough time. The better prepared you are for anything, the more you’ll be able to achieve incredible things.”
His openness serves as an inspiration for fans, reminding them that conditions like ADHD and dyslexia may bring obstacles but can also spark creativity and resilience when managed with patience and preparation.
