Tilak Varma Smashes Record IPL Century to Spark Mumbai Indians Comeback Against Gujarat Titans

Date:

Tilak Varma delivered a sensational performance to turn his struggling season around, scoring a breathtaking maiden century in the Indian Premier League and powering Mumbai Indians to a remarkable recovery against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.

Coming in under pressure after early wickets, Tilak initially struggled to find momentum, reaching just 19 runs off 22 balls. However, after a crucial mid-innings discussion with captain Hardik Pandya during the strategic timeout, the young left-hander completely shifted gears.

What followed was a stunning display of power hitting. In the final overs, Tilak dominated the Gujarat bowling attack, dismantling bowlers like Prasidh Krishna and Ashok Sharma. Mumbai piled on 96 runs in the last four overs, with Tilak contributing an incredible 82 runs during that phase—setting a new record for the most runs scored by a batter in the final overs of an IPL innings.

Tilak reached his century in dramatic fashion on the final ball, completing a 45-ball hundred that equals the fastest century record for Mumbai Indians, previously set by Sanath Jayasuriya. His unbeaten 101 now stands as his highest IPL score.

Earlier in the innings, Kagiso Rabada made an early impact with the ball for Gujarat Titans, claiming three quick wickets in the powerplay, including the crucial dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav. Despite the early setback, a steady half-century from Naman Dhir helped stabilize the innings before Tilak’s late onslaught took center stage.

Thanks to this explosive finish, Mumbai Indians posted a competitive total of 199 for five, marking one of the most dramatic comebacks of the season.
