Cricket Legends Celebrate India Women’s Historic Win Over Australia in World Cup Thriller

Date:

India’s women’s cricket team delivered a sensational performance at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, defeating reigning powerhouse Australia to secure their place in the Women’s World Cup final. In a match where odds were stacked heavily against them, Jemimah Rodrigues rose to the occasion with a breathtaking unbeaten 127 off 134 balls, guiding India to a record chase of 339 runs with five wickets in hand and nine balls remaining.

The victory sparked emotional reactions from cricket greats including Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Gautam Gambhir, all of whom praised the team for their courage and composure under intense pressure.

Rohit Sharma took to social media to applaud the moment with a heartfelt “Well done Team India,” while Sachin Tendulkar celebrated Jemimah and captain Harmanpreet Kaur for leading the charge with confidence and resilience.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly highlighted how far the team has come in recent years, calling their performance “outstanding” and a major milestone in the continued rise of women’s cricket in India. Head coach of the men’s team Gautam Gambhir echoed the never-give-up spirit, while Yuvraj Singh praised the belief and leadership that shaped the thrilling run chase, calling the win one that “goes beyond numbers.”

Earlier in the innings, India faced early setbacks as Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana departed cheaply. However, Jemimah’s monumental partnership of 167 runs with Harmanpreet steadied the chase and kept the scoreboard racing ahead. Although Harmanpreet missed out on a century after scoring 89, the momentum carried India through.

Crucial late contributions from Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh, followed by Amanjot Kaur striking the winning runs, sealed India’s emotional entry into the final — their first since 2017 and third overall. Tears of joy streamed down the faces of Jemimah and Harmanpreet as the final run crossed, symbolizing a victory built on belief, unity, and a fearless attitude.

India will take on South Africa in the highly anticipated World Cup final on November 2, right back at the DY Patil Stadium, with the nation rallying behind them as they continue their quest for glory.
