Wimbledon 2025: Novak Djokovic Seen as Major Threat on Grass as Alcaraz and Sinner Get Cautioned

Date:

As Wimbledon 2025 kicks off this Monday all eyes are set on Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner but tennis legend Wally Masur has issued a strong reminder not to overlook Novak Djokovic’s prowess on grass courts. Alcaraz and Sinner recently faced each other in the French Open 2025 men’s singles final with Alcaraz emerging victorious in a thrilling contest but the challenge ahead on London’s iconic grass courts could be very different.

Masur a two-time Grand Slam semi-finalist believes Djokovic’s experience and mastery on grass could give him a decisive edge this year. “I just cannot write Djokovic off at Wimbledon. He looked sharp in Paris pushing Sinner to play his best and on grass he’s even more dangerous because he knows how to handle the unique conditions so well. His forehand was aggressive and he played smart putting scoreboard pressure on Sinner. Grass courts naturally elevate Djokovic’s game and I feel he’s not far from the level needed to lift another Slam,” Masur said while previewing Wimbledon 2025.

Djokovic who made the Australian Open semi-finals and reached the quarters in Paris is eyeing a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title this summer. He could face Sinner again in the semi-finals and a potential blockbuster final against Alcaraz. For Djokovic Wimbledon remains his strongest hunting ground with seven titles to his name second only to Roger Federer’s eight in the Open Era. His 105 singles wins at the All England Club are the most by any player since tennis turned professional.

Acknowledging the opportunity Djokovic himself said Wimbledon is his best shot this season. “Considering my results and how I feel on grass I would say Wimbledon is probably my best chance to win another major. I get that extra mental push and motivation to play my best tennis here and I hope to make it count,” the 37-year-old Serbian champion remarked. With his vast experience and unmatched record Djokovic is set to make Alcaraz and Sinner’s road to glory far from easy in London this year.
