Criticism is mounting against Delhi Capitals after the team once again left out David Miller from their playing XI during their Indian Premier League 2026 clash against Chennai Super Kings. The decision has sparked strong reactions, with former India pacer Dodda Ganesh openly questioning the team’s approach and intent.
Ganesh did not hold back in his remarks, criticizing the team management for benching an experienced finisher like Miller for the second consecutive match. Instead, the Axar Patel-led side persisted with Pathum Nissanka at the top of the order. While Nissanka had impressed with a half-century in the previous game, he struggled in this match, managing just 19 runs.
The former pacer suggested that Delhi had enough domestic batting options such as Prithvi Shaw, Nitish Rana, or Abishek Porel to open alongside KL Rahul, which could have allowed Miller to strengthen the middle order. He questioned the logic behind the team combination, implying that such decisions undermine the seriousness of the side in a high-stakes tournament like the Indian Premier League.
On the field, Delhi Capitals’ decision to bat first after winning the toss did not yield the desired outcome. The batting lineup struggled early, collapsing to 69 for 5 within 11 overs under pressure from Chennai’s spin attack. Noor Ahmad and Akeal Hosein were particularly effective, dismantling the top order with disciplined bowling.
A recovery effort came from Tristan Stubbs and Sameer Rizvi, who built a crucial 65-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Stubbs contributed 38 runs, while Rizvi remained unbeaten on 40, helping Delhi post a total of 155 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Late contributions from Ashutosh Sharma added some momentum, including a quick 14-run cameo. The final over, bowled by Anshul Kamboj, proved expensive and helped Delhi push past the 150-run mark.
However, questions remain over team balance, especially with the decision to use Rizvi as an impact player, which reduced the bowling options available. As the tournament progresses, Delhi Capitals may need to reassess their strategy and team selection if they hope to remain competitive.
