Mubi Secures Global Rights for Na Hong-jin’s Cannes Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Hope’ Ahead of Premiere

Date:

Independent streaming platform Mubi has expanded its international film portfolio by acquiring distribution rights for the upcoming sci-fi action thriller Hope, directed by Na Hong-jin. The film is set to debut at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival later this month, generating early buzz among global cinema audiences.

The deal grants Mubi distribution rights across multiple regions, including Latin America, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Turkey. Following its theatrical release in these markets, the film will be made available on Mubi’s streaming platform. Meanwhile, North American distribution will be handled by Neon, which also controls rights in the United Kingdom and Australia.

Hope is set in a remote village near the Korean Demilitarized Zone, where a mysterious tiger sighting sparks fear among residents. As authorities begin investigating, the situation unfolds into something far more complex and unsettling. The narrative blends suspense, action, and science fiction elements, reflecting Na Hong-jin’s signature storytelling style.

The film features an international ensemble cast, including Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, and Hoyeon, alongside Taylor Russell and Cameron Britton. The project is produced under Na’s banner, Forged Films, in collaboration with Plus M Entertainment, which is also overseeing global sales.

Mubi’s latest acquisition continues its strategy of securing high-profile international titles from major film festivals. The platform has recently seen success with several Cannes titles, reinforcing its reputation as a key player in the arthouse and independent cinema space.

With a strong cast, intriguing storyline, and a high-profile festival premiere, Hope is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated international releases of the year.
