The struggles continue for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League 2026 season, as the team remains without a win after five matches—marking their worst-ever start in tournament history. Their latest defeat came against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, where they fell short by 32 runs.
KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane admitted that the team is struggling to find momentum, particularly with the bat. Chasing a target of 192, KKR’s batting lineup failed to deliver, managing only 160/7. Key players like Finn Allen, Sunil Narine, and Rinku Singh could not make significant contributions, while Rahane himself scored a modest 28 runs.
Rahane highlighted the lack of a solid start during the powerplay and difficulties in handling spin during the middle overs as major concerns. He emphasized the need for one batter to anchor the innings and guide the chase till the end. Despite the disappointing results, he stressed the importance of staying positive and maintaining team morale.
After the match, Rahane also pointed toward possible changes in team combination, suggesting that the squad may need adjustments to turn their fortunes around. He stated that while consistency is key when results are favorable, poor performances demand a reassessment of strategy and lineup.
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri, who was part of the post-match discussion, advised Rahane and his team to remain patient. He expressed hope that KKR would soon find the right combination to bounce back in the tournament.
The match began with Rahane winning the toss and opting to bowl first. CSK posted a competitive total of 192/5, powered by strong contributions from Sanju Samson and Dewald Brevis. Although KKR bowlers staged a comeback in the latter half of the innings to restrict the total, the batting unit could not capitalize.
KKR’s chase started poorly, with early wickets putting them under pressure. Despite attempts to reshuffle the batting order, no player managed to build a meaningful innings, resulting in another comprehensive defeat.
