Tensions surrounding the T20 World Cup 2026 continue to escalate as Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam has arrived in Pakistan ahead of a crucial ICC emergency meeting. The meeting is expected to address the growing uncertainty over the highly anticipated India versus Pakistan Group A match scheduled for February 15.
The controversy began after the Government of Pakistan announced that its national team would not be permitted to play against India citing official directives. In response the Pakistan Cricket Board invoked the Force Majeure clause in communication with the International Cricket Council arguing that it could not override government orders. The ICC has since asked the PCB to further clarify its position stating that the clause may not apply under the present circumstances.
According to reports the ICC will hold an emergency virtual meeting to resolve the deadlock with several member boards expected to participate. Aminul Islam is likely to attend the ICC PCB discussions and will also meet PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi during his visit before returning to Dhaka. The situation has drawn attention due to Pakistan’s claim that its decision to skip the India match is linked to solidarity with Bangladesh following its exit from the tournament.
The dispute traces back to the release of Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from an IPL squad after an order from the BCCI which triggered a chain of events. The BCB raised security concerns and urged the ICC to move its matches out of India. With no resolution reached Bangladesh was eventually replaced by Scotland in Group C prompting strong reactions from Pakistan officials.
The India Pakistan fixture remains one of the most commercially significant matches in world cricket and its potential cancellation could lead to substantial financial losses for the ICC broadcasters and sponsors. Meanwhile both India and Pakistan have already started their T20 World Cup 2026 campaigns with wins keeping the spotlight firmly on the unresolved standoff.
