Xiaomi is reportedly working on its next-generation foldable smartphone, expected to launch as the Xiaomi Mix Fold 5. Early information discovered in internal Mi Code hints at a new device carrying the model number 2608BPX34C along with the internal codename Q18, which is widely believed to represent the upcoming foldable model.
The device is expected to succeed the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4, continuing Xiaomi’s presence in the premium foldable segment. Reports suggest that the Mix Fold 5 could be powered by Xiaomi’s next in-house processor, the Xring O3 chipset. This would mark a step forward from the earlier Xring O1 chip, which debuted in devices like the Xiaomi 15S Pro and Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra.
By developing its own chipset, Xiaomi is aiming to reduce reliance on third-party suppliers while strengthening performance optimization across its flagship devices. The Mix Fold 5 is also expected to run on the latest version of HyperOS, offering enhanced software integration.
The foldable device is reportedly linked with the codename “lhasa” and could launch in China around August 2026. Pricing is expected to be around $1399, placing it in direct competition with other premium foldable smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Oppo Find N5.
Previous reports had suggested Xiaomi might release a foldable device in 2025, but that plan was reportedly cancelled after an earlier prototype under the codename “nirvana” was scrapped.
For reference, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 featured a 7.98-inch AMOLED inner display and a 6.56-inch outer screen powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. It also included a Leica-branded camera system and a 5100mAh battery with fast wired and wireless charging support.
With the Mix Fold 5, Xiaomi appears set to push innovation further in the foldable smartphone market by combining advanced hardware with its own chip technology.
